Rockin' Chalk in Boston

In Boston, on our honeymoon , we found a very loud, packed bar where no one knew an NCAA Final Four game was playing...let alone that it included our Kansas Jayhawks. It was a bit disappointing to have to bargain with the waitress to get her to bargain with the manager to keep the game on at least 1 of the 6 big screens in the place! But in the end, just as our hold over North Carolina seemed to be locked in, we met "Bernie" and "Tony"...they walked in and sat down right next to us, Tony sporting a Kansas City Royals baseball hat. We immediately commented that it was nice to be among friends, but then Tony reassured us that he didn't even like the Royals, and that he was only wearingg the cap because "it was free." Bernie and Tony pour beer at the Garden for the Bruins (hockey) games. They bought us a round a) because it was our honeymoon, and b) because our Jayhawks were clearly going to shutdown the Tarheels They were great fun to talk to, and we were able to celebrate with them our victory to carry us to the championship game (unfortunately, we falied to get a picture of Bernie and Tony):

On the night of the championship game, we sought out what we thought would be a well-stocked bar of basketball lovers: The Grand Canal. After all, this was the National Championship game, right? Wrong. What we instead found was an empty bar, save 3 businessmen and the bartender. But they quickly sympathized with us and bought us round after round of drinks ("For your honeymoon!" "Your team is playing in the championship!" and "Hey, did we hear you just got married?!"). In the end, Ben had to drink many of the beverages that had been purchased for me--I was too full to handle them. But we had a great time. Here are some celebratory shots after the victory:

Me doing the Rock Chalk Chant all by my lonesome...

Kevin, our Bartender, who had $230 on the game. Happy camper.
